Moroccan
Artist Sallam Chahdi participated in a collective art exposition organized
by “October gallery” in Philadelphia during the month of
February, part of the African American History month, last Friday, before
an audience with a large Moroccan American contingent.
Most of his work is done by black pencil, representing a series of African
American civil right figures such as Rosa Park and MLK, as well as figures
from the music and sports World such as Mohamed Ali and Billy Holidays…
“I
draw in black Pencil portraits of personalities that have made a mark
in African American history in various fields and particularly those
that have made a difference in the long struggle for civil rights of
all minorities” said Sallam.

“I
consider drawing, a passion and a profession” added Sallam who
is also the editor of an Arabic
language periodical “sawt Ala maghrib fi Al Mahjar”, and
a writer of an Arabic language book, published in Morocco - Hijrat ila
biladi al “ahlam” -.
“Drawing these portraits is rather difficult but provide sustained
satisfaction” , he is particularly proud of the large drawing
selected for the upcoming Mohamed Ali Museum.
About future projects, Sallam plans to expose a series of Art works
during Moroccan National Day festivities programmed next July in Orlando,
