4th Annual Moroccan-American Coalition Covention in Washington

Souad Adlani annual convention of the Moroccan American Coalition (MAC), held over last weekend under the theme "Connect, Inspire, Grow", wrapped up late Sunday in Washington, in an optimistic tone, coupled with a clear will to unite the voice of the Moroccan-American community. Aware that unity is strength, the organizers of the two-day meeting, as well as participants from different regions of the U.S., underscored the importance of endeavoring to better know one another and to make efforts in a context of alliance.Aziz El Madi, co-director of the Boston-based "Volunteer Morocco" association, thinks the 4th MAC Convention is an "important" initiative, and believes the coalition should include other Moroccan associations.

He told MAP the meeting has progressed in terms of organization and participation, emphasizing that the ultimate aim of such an event is to connect and unite Moroccans in order to promote joint projects developed by Moroccan NGOs and associations in the U.S.

This viewpoint is shared by Yanouri Ahmed, co-chairman of the MAC Convention, who says the Moroccan community has "come a long way" in recent years. Yanouri, who comes from Dallas, where the Moroccan community has "a good reputation," stresses that the Moroccans living in the U.S. aspire today to achieve key gains like other communities that have already succeeded in having a great influence, and even impacting the course of American politics.

"These communities provide an example that if we are united, we can achieve great things for the Moroccan community here (in the U.S.) and in Morocco," he argues.

Mohammed Bourdi, Vice-Chairman of the association Moroccan American Society for Life Sciences, and researcher at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) notes that the Moroccan community is becoming more organized and more visible, especially in terms of objectives. He stresses the need for initiatives that can bring together scientists from Morocco across the United States.

For Nadia Serhani, founding member and SG of the Morocco Foundation, an organization recognized of public utility by the U.S. government, continues in the same course by highlighting the communication and networking as one of the major challenges facing the Moroccan community.

The MAC conference, Serhani stresses, had the merit of bringing together Moroccans of diverse backgrounds from around the United States. The 4th Convention of the MAC is in fact an expression of the contribution of twenty Moroccan associations established in various American states.

Founded in 2006, MAC is a communication and cooperation channel aimed at addressing issues related to the common interests of the Moroccan community in the U.S. and to strengthen their identity and attachment to the motherland.

Bravo MAC: You did again!

I could not believe how many Moroccan Americans traveled from far to attend this convention. That, to me, is a true measure of how far we have come as a community and most importantly that time for a real "Unified Moroccan American Front" is indeed in the making.

Just imagine what we can do together if we can all speak with one voice! Not a dream, but a reality in the making.

Love you all.

Great event. Thanks for putting up so many pictures though. Too many bouliss and boullissiyates still at MAC. We need a new ambassador big time if you ask me; this one is turning into a little Caid with his mini me by the his side all the time. The bouliss should be more discreet if they want to do the job right. No need for most of them to attend all at once because of free food. Allah ister.

salam to all the moroccans in the states and canada and else where, i'm glad to see how my fellow moroccans come together in such event like that to discuss the future of our community here in the us, although most of us didn't know about this important event, but it is good to see our intellectuals all for one goal and make our community in better positions than where it is now, cause that's what's missing a good leadership, without it i don't think we can reach any objectives in any kind of aspects of our life for both countries, and specially our beloved morocco, we all have obligations toward our homeland and families and i don't think anyone can say the opposite no matter all the differences in opinions, background or even political views, anyone would love to help and do good for his country and that's what a good citizens does, this is gonna be a real test for all of us, let's be all for one and one for all, let's focus on the priorities and leave the rest after, let's hear what ordinary people have to say, let's apply what we learned and lived from this great nations, let's fix our mistakes of the past, let's help those in need of us, let's be a small democracy and represent our country in all the panels, to do so we need to come together all of us united in one mission one goal one nation, people need to grow up, even to wake up, the future is even harder than the past if we can't stand all of us as one, it is gonna be hard, we need each other to do so, no one know what's gonna happen tomorrow, and i'm talking about the majority, which don't get what's going on around us all over the world, and that's why all the smart ones need to get together and take the lead, enough staying back and watching it's time for you to do your part, and we will be glad to join, and let's see how it will work this year, and hope we will hear good news all along, anyways it's just me talking and dreaming, change will come to us as well, if you want it you can do it.

it's a very good sign to see our fellow moroccans coming together in such event like that, i now it's not the first time cauz I've been following the mac since two years now and still waiting for results, not that i'm against it but more like i think it's the problem of selectivity that seams the major rule of it's board and to prove it the fact that they are a minority, and the rest of us don't even know what's MAC or its goals, and stop saying it's our fault cauz we're not registered in the consulate(by the way iam), and so what? we are in the 21st century so thank god for the technology, but that's the way we are, always good to find excuses for all of our misery, just want it to express my personal view, since i've been in the states(5years now) i saw the ambassador once i believe and i saw more singers and rappers(morocca n of course) than him, so you know what i mean, im saying this not cauz i want him to visit me,no of course, but just do your job that's all, represent morocco and the citizens that pays you, not to show up once in a life time and pretend that you care about us, when nobody listen to our needs and not fixing our problems, we know how to react with that person trust me im saying it straight up i've been hearing people complaining about the same problems and nothing is done all this years, so the question is why?what did our ambassador do to fix our needs?when are we gonna be able to help our beloved country not only poring the dollar in its banks?
well when i get some answers i'll know it's just me thinking that way and i hope not, and i know people wanna help and do good things for their countries, we need to step up and be there for our families and our own people let's not be so selfish and think about who's in need, let's be all one nation one body one country, cauz the next few years are gonna be really hard if we don't stick together we're not gonna be able to surpass all the coming obstacles, we all need each others, take example of the Latinos, they are making history, so let's learn from our mistakes and fix them it's never too late to start a new page...
