Moroccan American Community celebrates Social Activist Aicha Chenna

Following Aicha Chenna's win of the Opus Prize this year. The Washington Moroccan Club has organized a community event that hosted, thanked and celebrated Ms Ech Chenna's lifetime work and her recent recognition by the Opus Prize jury. Ms. Chenna, the founder of the Moroccan Feminine Solidarity Association,  encouraged the community to organize and become more active in support of the needy in Morocco. She said " why would not we add another "million dollar" contribution from the community to help various social actions".

Ms Chenna said Moroccans can be very generous when they are confortable that their charity wil be put to good use. She also asked the audience for more patience because the mentalities are slow to change. " I was taken to court in th eighties by the Islamists because they accused me of "encouraging debauchery" by helping single mothers, now many of them support our actions and understand our aims"
MoroccoBoard TV was on hand to cover the event and record an interview, produced by Mr. Said Zairi and AVA's Mohamed El Hajjam,  with Ms Chenna.

As a part of the Moroccan community, I am very surprised to hear that The Washington Moroccan Club has organised an event for Ms Aicha Chenna. I don't know how they communicated for this event, especially that I am part of the club's mailing list. May be it was a private event, butt his is another dissapointment becaue many events are organised on the name of the Moroccan community while we are not informed about them.
I hope that there will be better communication in the future.

I am fairly involved with the Moroccan American community in the DC area and have not heard of the event. You should also stop making statements on behalf of the Moroccan community when you have no mandate to represent it. I am a member of the Washington Club and have not received any communication on this. Was it a secret event?

The title is misleading and should be "Secret Event celebrates Social Activist Aicha Chenna."

There is always some "celebration" somewhere to wich the "special ones" are invited. So why bother telling me about it after it happens? I may add that Aicha is a sweetheart to me and when she came to the Bank few years back and we attended together a great conference, we enjoyed a good barbecue on my porch. I would have enjoyed very much seeing her again and celebrating her success. Helas!

peace be upon you,
i'm a social worker in morocco, i've contacted lalla aisha many times concerning single mothers and they were in need, young and they couldn't return home ... Lalla aicha hasn't ansewerd on my emails... It's a shame ! As far as i'm concerned, USA must give this million of dollars to an moroccan organisation like Mohammed V or Mohammed VI foundations who could divide it on many associations !!!
Please , don't believe those thieves!
