Responsibilities
Research on topics related to functions of three Moroccan-American NGOs: The Moroccan American Trade and Investment Center (MATIC), the Moroccan American Center for Policy (MACP), and the Moroccan American Cultural Center (MACC). Specific assignments will reflect current programming needs of these organizations. Attending events and writing reports on event content for senior management and for various publications and newsletters produced by the NGOS. Administrative support for programming of the NGOs, for example, visits to companies to promote the Morocco-US Free Trade Agreement (FTA), promoting attendance at trade conferences at which MATIC participates, providing informational materials for MACP seminars and roundtables, assisting in the organization of cultural and educational events, translation, general office administration. Requirements 1. Proficient in French and English (Spanish and/or Arabic a plus) 2. Demonstrated interest in Morocco, North Africa and the Maghreb region, Arab studies, the US government, international affairs, economic development, foreign policy or other related subjects 3. Strong knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft Office software (web publishing experience a plus) 4. Team player who can also work well independently with multiple priorities 5. International applicants are welcome to apply but must have the appropriate visa/work permit or complete the internship for course credit only. Description of Academic Objectives Specific academic objectives include developing the student’s understanding of and expertise in: 1. Research methodologies and skills related to topics of interest to the NGOs 2. Current policy issues related to Morocco-US relations 3. Economic and social development issues in Morocco 4. Outreach opportunities for enhancing Morocco-US relations 5. Interpersonal communications skills (English and French) 6. Office administration skills including the discipline of an office environment 7. Cooperation with various government agencies, including foreign Embassies 8. Career opportunities Compensation Term of Internship and Application Deadlines Proposed Schedule (subject to change): Spring Internship - January 10 to April 30 Please note that the Application Deadline for the Spring 2008 semester is November 30, 2007
