The price of oil pushes Morocco into the green zone
ZAK ETTAMYMY

solar power moroccowhy I support a greener Morocco, it will make it less vulnerable to its neighbor’s suicidal mentality, it will make Morocco a pioneer by necessity in a field that will make the oil industry a banality, and only those who take the train of green and renewable energy will be the new heroes and the real superpowers of tomorrow

Russia muscled its way out of trouble in the Georgian war; Iran follows its path quietly to the group of the most powerful nations "i.e. Israel, USA, Russia, China etc...» No Arabs allowed! Chavez challenges the US in the heart of Manhattan and calls George Bush "the devil", Dubai broke all records in urbanism including" the highest building in the world, the first under water hotel, the first ski resort in the desert and why not the first American presidential debate outside the US, brought to you by Emirates and Qafco keeps spending top dollars on ads on Aljazeera that no one understands. This and others are the show of force of the oil producing countries in an era when bio-fuel is a myth, Hybrid cars look weird and the oil has reached $ 160.00 on its way to $ 200.00 per barrel.
But the most dangerous of all is when the oil money is used, not to build a country or a region or even to influence the world economically and culturally but rather to stop the successful, none oil based prosperity of a neighbor., the problem with this formula is that none oil economies are very sensitive to world mood, in Iraq the oil is being pumped as the suicide bombs rock Baghdad, but not one tourist can go to place of such violence. So, for Morocco to create a sustainable none oil based economy we must have a neighbor who cares about the stability of the region, IE, less wars and less tension, something an oil producing country may not be too sensitive to because as I mentioned before oil can be pumped in areas of high violence and still one can find buyers extending their cash out, areas such as the Nigeria, South Sudan, Iraq etc..
This is why I support a greener Morocco, it will make it less vulnerable to its neighbor’s suicidal mentality, it will make Morocco a pioneer by necessity in a field that will make the oil industry a banality, and only those who take the train of green and renewable energy will be the new heroes and the real superpowers of tomorrow; The majority of renewable energy technologies are directly or indirectly powered by the sun. The Earth-Atmosphere system is in equilibrium such that heat radiation into space is equal to incoming solar radiation, the resulting level of energy within the Earth-Atmosphere system can roughly be described as the Earth's "climate, the sun something not too scares in Morocco.
So, Morocco has two choices, to keep spending its hard earned currency on fossil, dirty fuel and follow the crazy roller coaster energy markets of the world or renew its vision to tomorrow's energies, wind, water, bio-fuel and sun. Don’t they all fit with Morocco? "water, wind, sun and agriculture, nothing imported 100 % Moroccan, that's the future"
We know that the Moroccan trade deficit is heavy and the Moroccans living abroad and the tourism industry are the only hope to remedy this deficit, what we don’t know is that energy is a large contributor to this trade deficit; if we tackle this problem with serious desire from the government to lower the Moroccan reliance on foreign energy and at the same time produce clean and local energy, the rest is not too hard to predict...more money for infrastructure, more money for education and healthcare and more money to develop and modernize the green energy program but above all restoring the beauty of Morocco for generations to come.; it is heart aching to see fields of plastic bags in the outskirts of Casablanca and the polluted trees in the streets of Morocco.
I know that it is cool these days to talk environment but my thoughts are beside this trend, I am speaking of a strategic choice Moroccans ought to make.

Well done
I admire your eloquence. That's a very good example of a well written and logically argumented article. I hope decision-makers would read it (although I doubt it as they would only listen what's being dictated from Paris).
